WeCar Fund for Community Service

In an effort to support community service involvement among all members of the University community, the Gephardt Institute for Public Service operates the WeCar Fund to assist with the costs of reserving a WeCar for community service. Funding for the WeCar Fund is provided by the Gephardt Institute, the Community Service Office, and Student Union.

Once you enroll in the WeCar program, it's easy to complete a short online application each time you have community service plans and you need help with transportation. After you receive your approval code, you can reserve the car of your choice, and we'll foot the bill!

Learn about the WeCar. Enroll in the WeCar program.

Please allow 3-6 business days to receive notification of your approval
Reserve your WeCar with your approval code and get going!

All WeCar guidelines and rules apply to drivers and passengers using the WeCar Fund.
Submit your application for WeCar funding when you have community service plans and you need help with transportation. Please allow at least two business days to process your request.

Important Notes:
  • You must apply for WeCar funding EVERY time you need a car. Approval codes may not be re-used for future trips, and they are not transferable to other drivers.
  • Although we would like to accommodate everyone's requests as often as desired, limited funding is available to meet the high demand for the WeCar Fund. It is our intention to help as many people as possible with transportation to community service sites. As a result, we have placed a limit on the amount that can be requested: 20 rental hours per individual and 30 rental hours per group per semester.
    • An individual is defined as one person using the car whose community service activity is not connected to a student group, class, or department.
    • A group is defined as two or more people who drive the car together OR one or more individuals whose community service activity is connected to a student group, class, or department. Whenever possible, carpooling is encouraged to make the best use of the WeCar Fund and reduce environmental impact.

It is more economical to arrange a full-day rental vehicle through Enterprise, or to rent a bus, if the number of hours or number of volunteers is high. WeCar reservations over six hours or for two or more cars are typically more expensive than a full-day rental. Please submit your WeCar Fund request, and if we deem that it is appropriate to explore other options, we will notify you and work with you to support those expenses.

Receive your approval code via email.
Approval from the WeCar Fund does not constitute a WeCar reservation and does not guarantee that a car is available at your desired time.  Please submit your request for  WeCar Funds as soon as your community service plans are made so that you can reserve  the car of your choice.

Important Notes:
  • The WeCar Fund will not cover fees and expenses incurred as a result of late returns, unused reservations, or use of the approval code for a different date or purpose without permission. Your personal credit card will be charged under these circumstances, and there is no appeals process.
  • If your plans change and you no longer intend to use your approval code, or you want to apply your approval code to a different day or time, please contact Stephanie Kurtzman in the Community Service Office (stephanie.kurtzman@wustl.edu).
