Name(s):

  • David Fox '11

Title of your project:

  • Environmentalism as a Conduit to Peace [ Israel ]

Abstract

  • Educating the next generation of Arabs and Israelis about the importance of the environment is a means for enhancing cooperation and understanding between these two groups. The goal of my project is to use environmentalism as a conduit to peace on a small scale. I am proposing to develop an environmental curriculum for Israeli and Bedouin youth in the small development town of Yerucham . I am also proposing to build an organic garden in the town. The Negev is the center for solar technological research and water-sustainability research for Israel and the International community. My project will introduce Israeli and Arab youth to the environmental opportunities open to them and the technological capabilities for environmental sustainability. This summer I will:
    • Study at the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies and write an environmental curriculum with the help of faculty.
    • Help campers build an organic garden in their own town.
    • Run a day camp for Yerucham and Bedouin youth using my environmental curriculum.
