Name:

  • Lindsey Horton MSW ‘11 & Kelly Scott MSW ‘11

Project:

  • Job Matching-Training Program for Young Cambodian Females [ Cambodia ]

Abstract

  • Access to upper secondary education in Cambodia is fraught with many obstacles. The objective of the Job Matching-Training Program is to equip Cambodian female youth between ages 15-22 with a marketable employment skill-set so that they can work part-time as housekeepers or cooks while remaining in or re-entering school. Village Earth, our partner NGO, will serve as a liaison between the girls and the employers. The program lasts eight weeks and the girls will participate in a training module consisting of five educational components: cross-cultural, financial, housekeeping/cooking, hygiene/nutrition, and English. The participants will have the opportunity to learn about housekeeping and cooking from training in a Western style home and kitchen. We will also be cultivating relationships with various NGOs, embassies, and consulates to identify potential employers for the young women. Village Earth will be left with all components of the Job Matching-Training Program to replicate the project if they so choose.
